Israel has maintained an illegal occupation and colonization of the West Bank and Gaza for 40 years. This includes 133 illegal Israeli settlements, 562 military checkpoints, 610 flying checkpoints, Israeli-only roads and settlements built on Palestinian lands, denial of residency rights, 11,500 Palestinian political prisoners in Israeli jails and, just in the past 7 years alone, 35,000 more Palestinians were made homeless by home demolitions and land confiscations. The Gaza Strip has been turned into a large concentration camp where 1.5 million Palestinians (most refugees) are held in a desert strip with what the U.N. Human Rights commissioner has declared as "catastrophic" conditions.

Israel is funded to the tune of $5 billion (3 billion in direct aid, 2 billion other) from U.S. taxes and shielded from international law and basic human rights conventions by our government (e.g. 37 vetoes at the U.N. security Council). We thus hold special responsibility in this situation (and in the atrocities in Iraq that derive from it), which is not the same for example for Darfur, Sudan (where our government is not funding oppression but is actually at least verbally trying to stop it).

Israeli artists declared in 2002: "If the state of Israel aspires to perceive itself as a democracy, it should abandon once and for all, any legal and ideological foundation of religious, ethnic and demographic discrimination. The state of Israel should strive to become the state of all its citizens. We call for the annulment of all laws that make Israel an apartheid state, including the Jewish law of return in its present form."

Izrael je jediná demokracie na Blízkém východě, kde mají Židé i Arabové,muži i ženy stejná práva. Zatímco muslimské země jsou totalitární a despotické, ženy mají postavení hadru, Židé a křesťané nemají stejná práva s muslimy. V Darfouru vyvražďují muslimští Arabové černé křesťany. V muslimských státech se dějí také vraždy ze cti,kdy jsou zabíjeny dívky jen proto, že se nepodřídí mravům. Izrael je ostrov demokracie v moři barbarství (muslimských státech).

Za jiných okolností by padaly bomby, ale když vlivný rabín volá po totální likvidaci Palestinců, svět přihlíží bez mrknutí oka, píše Sáleh al-Námí.

„Všichni Palestinci musí být pobiti; muži, ženy, děti, dokonce i jejich dobytek.“

Tento zbožný názor pronesl před týdnem rabín Jisroel Rosen, ředitel náboženského institutu Comet navštěvovaného studenty a vojáky v izraelských osadách na Západním břehu. V článku zveřejněném v řadě náboženských izraelských listů před dvěma týdny a otištěném 26. března v liberálním listu Ha‘arec Rosen tvrdil, že v Tóře existují podklady k ospravedlnění tohoto názoru. Rosen jako autorita s právem vydávat pro židy náboženská stanoviska, napsal, že Palestinci jsou jako národ Amálekovců, který zaútočil na izraelské kmeny na jejich cestě do Jeruzaléma po útěku z Egypta pod Mojžíšovým vedením; Bůh seslal v Tóře příkaz dovolující židům pobít Amálekovce a tento příkaz je v židovské právní vědě znám.

Rosen do článku, který v Izraeli vyvolal poprask, uvedl text tohoto příkazu Tóry: „Nyní jdi a pobij Amáleka; jako klaté zničíte vše, co mu patří. Nebudeš ho šetřit, ale usmrtíš muže i ženu, pachole i kojence, býka i ovci, velblouda i osla!“ (1. Samuelova 15,3; překlad podle bible Českého ekumenického překladu – pozn. překl.) Rosen dodává, že Amálekovci nejsou určitá rasa nebo náboženství, ale spíše všichni, kdo nenávidí židy z náboženských nebo národnostních důvodů. Jde tak daleko, že tvrdí: „Amálekovci budou existovat tak dlouho jako židé. Vynoří se vždy z jiné rasy, aby útočili na židy, a proto musí být válka proti nim globální.“ Požaduje uplatnění „příkazu o Amálekovcích“ a říká, že židé se jim musí vždycky řídit, protože jde o „Boží přikázání“.Rosen se nerozpakuje definovat „Amálekovce tohoto věku“ jako Palestince.
