Czech annual inflation came in below the expecations of most analysts at 1.8 percent in June

Czech inflation slowed to an annual 1.8 percent in June from May’s 2.0 percent, largely thanks to cheaper food and drink, the Czech Statistical Office (ČSU) announced on Tuesday.

Prices in June fell by 0.2 percent compared with May after a month-on-month rise of 0.5 percent in the previous month.

As well as sharp falls in the cost of fresh fruit and vegetables, the rate of transport cost increases  slowed on more moderate fuel price hikes.

The annual rate of inflation comes in below the expectations of most analysts, which was for an average 2.1 percent rise.

Komerční banka said in a report Tuesday that it did not see any risk of higher inflation pressure in the near term from household demand.

Czech National Bank (ČNB) deputy governor Mojmír Hampl recently warned of such price pressure making itself felt in the second half of the year.

The ČNB has an annual  inflation target of 2.0 percent.
