Czech anti-organized crime police arrest Prague police chief Vladimír Kotrouš for having allegedly accepted bribes

Chief of the Prague city police, Vladimír Kotrouš, was arrested at around 1:00 pm on Friday by officers from the national anti-organized crime (ÚOOZ) and members of the police’s national rapid reaction force URNA, the server lidovky.cz reports. According to the server’s information, Kotrouš is suspected of accepting bribes.

The anti-organized crime unit (ÚOOZ), headed by Robert Šlachta, would only confirm that it had taken action on Friday afternoon. “All I can say is that today action is being taken in Prague over one case,” ÚOOZ spokesman Pavel Hanták told lidovky.cz, declining to elaborate.

In the past, Kotrouš faced scrutiny over the purchase of three Hummer jeeps for the Prague police force for an undisclosed price without a public tender being held. The vehicles were deemed to be superfluous.

Kotrouš joined the Prague police in 1992. He was appointed as head of the force in 2002, after leading the police department in Prague 6 for several years.
